Goodbye 2007, Hello 2008

Addison and I went over to my friend Sarah's parents house to bring in the New Year. We made it until 8:30. We are a pair of party animals. We probably would have made it until midnight if I, being "mother of the year", hadn't forgotten the diaper bag on the kitchen counter before we left. So we were missing some serious necessities to party the night away like diapers, Tylenol, teething tablets, and jammies.

Being New Years Eve, I thought I should sit down and reflect on the past year and set some resolutions for the next, so here it goes. 2007 was good to us, for the most part. Addison and I settled into our routine here at home pretty well. I've enjoyed being with her all day to see every new step of her development. God gave me a wonderful gift by making me wait until I was 29 to have a child. Everything Jason and I went through the last 10 years have been preparing us to be patient and grateful parents. One of the biggest negatives of 2007 was Jason's trials at work. It was very stressful on him to be there and just as stressful to decide to leave, but I am so proud of him for this leap-of-faith he his taking. He is brave and I'm enjoying seeing this adventurous side of him. Another downer of 2007 was the loss of Chris Thompsen. He was a few years younger than my parents, a good friend of my Dad's and a life-long friend of my mother's. I grew up with his boys in my little hometown of less than 50 people. He was a good man and it hurts me that so many people have to go through what my dad did with cancer. Some people go fast and some people decide to fight. I cannot imagine the courage it takes to go through treatments that do everything to kill you, just to try and make yourself well again.

On a lighter note, 2008 is a new year. The Wandering Schubarth's are on an adventure! I wish I could say my goals are to lose weight and quit smoking, but they're not. My resolution is to have a good routine. I have fallen into the trappings that Stay-At-Home-Mom's frequently do. I crawl out of bed in the morning when I hear Addison's awake, we get up and watch Sesame Street in our PJ's until 10am. I usually dress and sometimes brush my hair before noon! I have no set schedule for anything. I clean house when I feel like it. I go to the grocery store when we're out of milk and I rarely have any plans set in stone, unless it's a doctors appointment. I recently found a website called The Flylady. It's pretty interesting stuff, for all of you homemakers out there. It's all about getting up in the morning, dressing all the way to tying up your shoes and having a routine. I'm going to give it a try once we are moved and settled. Also, part of our Mon-Fri schedule will be the YMCA for one hour a day. I need to get healthy, meet people, and Addison needs to see someone else's face besides mine everyday.

So there's my thoughts for 2007 and 2008. I would like to say that I am truly blessed to have such a wonderful family. Although there are some I don't get to see as much as I'd like, some need to be on medication, and some that get frustrated with me, I love them all through and through. God Bless and Happy New Year!

Christmasing

This is "Miss Thing" looking quite excited on Christmas morning with all her loot. Bless her heart, notice the disheveled hair. It looks like every picture of me on Christmas morning
that my mother took of me, until I was about 25. Although, I'm pretty sure I was never ever that bright eyed in the wee hours of the morning.

This is the Johnson's (with Santa) on the day we had our family Christmas. We all went to church together in the Church I grew up in. It has special meaning to me as it's where Mom and Dad got married, where Jason and I got married, and it's where my dad's funeral was held. This was a great day although Addison was a little under the weather, so we didn't stay as long as we would have liked. We ate homemade Chinese food, that was wonderful and had a good time opening presents, and watching the kids play with their new toys.

This is my biggest brother Chad. He has a slight case of sleep apnea. Seriously Dude, you should really have that checked out.

Yes, I'm wearing the same sweater that I did the day with the Johnson's. Sorry, it's new, and
I have a thing about wearing anything new I get over and over, until it doesn't feel new anymore, or I get another new thing that I have to start compulsively wearing it over and over.

The cute lady sitting in the middle is Jason's grandmother at her 90th birthday party. All those happy people around her are the Schubarth's! Jason's uncles traveled from California and Wyoming to be there for their mom. It was a great night spent with family. The best part though had to be the huge sombrero they plopped on Peggy's head at Carlos O'Kelly's while the wait staff sang Happy Birthday. That's something you just don't see everyday!

Starting A Blog

I've decided to start a blog mostly because we are moving out of state, away from our family and friends. I wanted to find a way where the people closest to us, wouldn't feel like they were missing out on our lives, especially Addison. My hope is that you can stop by every so often and catch up on pictures, stories, or just see what we are doing. I probably won't post much for the next few weeks as we are going to be busy with the move, but as soon as we are settled and I have computer access I will try to post every couple of days.

Our Christmas went very well. Jason got to come home for five days and it was great to have him around. We had a nice visit with all of Jason's uncles and my immediate and extended family. My camera had a dead battery half the weekend, so I didn't get as many pictures as I would have liked. I had gotten lazy and was using the rechargeable ones in our TV remotes instead of saving them for the camera. I did discover that 2 brand new non-rechargeable batteries will last about 10 minutes in my digital camera before going dead. Good to know.

Anyway, I hope everyone that drops by enjoys this. Thanks for stopping by!

P.S. I started the first blog in purple since I'm a Wildcat and I'm moving to Huskerville, I have to try and hang on to my roots! I feel my fingers slipppppiiiinnnngggg.......
